Next-Generation Co-Operative AI for VR Gaming

Boston, MA — May 7, 2018 MetroVR Studios, Inc., (MVRS) a Boston-based start-up VR game development company, announced a joint-development program with Brillianetor, an Israeli Artificial Intelligence firm, to implement cooperative AI technology for Virtual Reality.

Artificial Intelligence has become a standard video game technology, especially in the implementation of ‘enemy’ characters and ‘bots.’ There is a great need, however, for next-generation AI that enables cooperation between multiple agents to achieve the more realistic and engaging demands of today’s game developers and their customers.

Metro VR Studios has been developing several cutting-edge VR titles, including a multi-character pirate game titled “Quest of The Pirate KingTM” which features realistic sea battles that require the unique capabilities of socially cooperative AI.

Brillianator has developed an AI technology for “Empowering Artificial Intelligence with a Social Mind.” Brillianetor brings never-before-seen levels of awareness to bots of their surroundings, with the added ability to collaborate or compete with other bots or with human beings in dynamic environments.

“Our challenge is to create fully-functioning virtual versions of 18th-century sailing ships, each weighing close to a million pounds and travelling with tremendous momentum, that require coordination between their captains when in an engagement,” said Scott Matalon, Co-Founder and President of Metro VR Studios. “Sea captains need to be aware of what their enemies and allied ships are doing before committing to a course of action, and also to quickly reevaluate and react to the ever-changing situations of an open sea battle with multiple ships involved. Brillianetor’s cooperative AI gives us the tools to mimic the life-and-death decisions these captains were required to make.”

“We are committed to bringing our cooperative AI technology to the video game market, which is currently in a transformative stage with the advent of VR, massive online audiences, the democratization of core technologies, and the processing speeds of today’s computing platforms,” said Meirav Hadad-Segev, founder and Chief Scientist of Brillianetor. “Metro VR Studios’ “Quest of The Pirate KingTM” title represents precisely the types of challenges we enjoy best.”

Brian Levine, VP of Business Development at Metro VR Studios, adds, “The energy between the technical people from both of our companies exemplifies the type of pushing at boundaries which defines ‘cutting-edge.’ We are excited to be working together and anticipate a lasting partnership.”

Upcoming ‘Orion13’ VR title provides gamers an innovative VR experience

Boston, MA – March. 23, 2019 MetroVR Studios, Inc., (MVRS) a Boston-based start-up VR game development company, announced it will be featuring its upcoming VR title, Orion13SM, at the “Made in MA” PAX East Party on Thursday, March 28, 2019 sponsored by the Massachusetts Digital Games Institute (MassDiGi).

Designed for experienced VR headset owners, Orion13SM provides a unique VR game experience. Orion13SM is the complex and challenging first-person, story-based adventure of a newly self-aware combat robot’s epic journey to ‘go home.’ Set in a robot-ruled society, Orion13SM features open locomotion with full-body Inversive Kinematics, fast-paced hack-and-slash sword-fighting, interactive characters, and a pumping original electronic score.

“Orion13SMis a fun, colorful pastiche of influences from everything we love in movies, art, gaming and music,”said Associate Producer and Musical Director Ron Arra, Jr. “We really dialed in the type of mechanics and environments that fully maximize this medium. The interactive characters and storyline have heart and soul, and our attention to detail creates a cumulatively immersive experience.”

UploadVR game reviewer Dave Jagneaux recently described Orion13SM as “A heavy retro-futuristic art style that’s drenched in neon colors to evoke a very distinct visual flair. Environments are popping bright, loud, neon colors that drench textures and cover entire walls from top to bottom. And you’ve got a great deal of freedom of movement with very fast speeds.”

“We set out to push the limits of the user experience, creating an immersive VR game that feels like you’re ‘playing a movie’…where you really are the main character on an adventure,” said Scott Matalon, co-founder of MVRS. “You are inhabiting a fully-articulated VR body freely moving through a complex series of game levels. Combining that with hands-in-game interactivity, and complex puzzling, really sets our game apart from anything on the market.”.

The game is scheduled for early release launch in late Spring of 2019.

Metro VR Studios Poised to Reboot the Virtual Reality Gaming Industry

Boston-based developer set to release fully immersive action & adventure games for the Oculus and Steam platforms

Boston, Mass. — Dec. 18, 2019 MetroVR Studios, Inc., (MVRS) a Boston-based start-up VR game development company, announced a joint-development program with Brillianetor, an Israeli Artificial Intelligence firm, to implement cooperative AI technology for Virtual Reality.

Boston, Mass. — Dec. 18, 2019 Metro VR Studios (MVRS), a Boston-based start-up and independent virtual reality (VR) video game development company, announces it’s ready to deliver to avid gamers what they crave: next-generation VR action and adventure games that are fully immersive and told through compelling storylines. Starting with the February 2020 release of the company’s first game, Orion13, VR gamers will experience open-world locomotion and realistically-articulated virtual body features that give the player a fluid, fast-paced, first-person, action-filled VR experience, all set to an original sound track.

Scott Matalon, founder and president, MVRS, said, “We’ve set out to push the user experience by creating an immersive VR game that plays like a movie and feels like you’re the main character on a spectacular adventure. What sets our games apart is that we put gamers into a realistically-articulated VR body that moves quickly and fights furiously through an intricate series of levels combined with hands-in-game interactivity and complex puzzling.”

Brian Levine, executive vice president, MVRS, “Our games are for gamers. They’re for the other ten million Scotts out there who, like Scott, are looking to play a next-generation VR action and adventure game that has a deep story but is also full of Easter eggs and humor. The only difference between Scott and other gamers—when Scott couldn’t find VR games he wanted to play, he designed and programmed one himself.”

MVRS is made up of an eclectic group of friends who all share a passion for entrepreneurship, and for making a splash as the small fish in a big pond. In the late 90s, the trio disrupted the online e-commerce industry. In December 2016, they once again banded together to create an independent studio more in-tune with what hard-core VR gamers want.

Scott Matalon, founder and president, MVRS, is the driving force behind Metro VR Studios. He programs, directs and designs the games. With a background as diverse as his role, Scott previously developed Web/E-compresences for top-tier media & entertainment brands, including Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, U2, Phish, SONY and AOL Canada. Scott was also the designer of BuyItOnline.com shopping portal, which received two International Patents for e-commerce Shopping Carts and Electronic Coupons. He is also the founder of Stingray Body Art, the leading and most successful tattoo & body modification shop in New England, as well as Stumpworld Systems – a technology company specializing in re-engineering clients’ business into the online medium.

Michael Clebnik, CEO and co-founder, MVRS, is a serial entrepreneur who founded several companies including American Fantasy Sports, the first short-duration fantasy sport contest platform; NLOP.com, the country’s largest free-to-play poker portal; and Stumpworld Systems. After striking partnerships with NBC Sports, Miller Brewing, UFC and WWE, he sold NLOP.com to Zen Gaming in 2010. Michael is also the architect of Seclock.com – a $35 million B2B portal in the premises security industry.

Brian Levine, executive vice president, MVRS, also brings a highly diversified background to the MVRS team. Brian has served as CME, CEO and COO of numerous companies, both private and public, in the cleantech, e-commerce, marketing, manufacturing, and distribution industries. He was the original investor partner for Stumpworld Systems and an instrumental actor in its 2001 merger and acquisition with Surefire Commerce.

Aside from gameplay, another critical way MVRS is differentiating itself from AAA publishers and others is by releasing games in quick succession. Gamers won’t wait years between titles. Orion13, which is stylized like Bladerunner, set in a futuristic world ruled by robots, where buildings and landscapes are saturated in neon colors, is part of a planned trilogy. Additionally, MVRS has two other games well into development: Quest of the Pirate King and Kid Air Combat.

MVRS is one of a limited number of independent studios selected to participate for each of Sony™, Microsoft™, and Oculus™ VR developer programs. MVRS has worked closely with the Oculus Start development team and will initially offer its game on the Steam.com and Oculus Store portals. Orion13 is scheduled for release in Feb. 2020 and will be available for the HTC and Oculus headsets.

Metro VR Studios is an independent VR development company located in Boston, Mass., focused on developing high-quality, character-driven action & adventure games for virtual reality on the Oculus, Vive and PS4 platforms. MVRS is developing multiple VR game titles featuring strong main characters, unique multi-character play-modes, and movie-like plot arcs bringing a unique vision of VR gameplay to a rapidly developing marketplace.
